Italian Police Observe UFO
[Original headline: C'è un Ufo su Porta Nuova]

 An unidentified flying object in the shape of a 'strange sphere' was seen on the morning of Sept 15 flying above a public square at Puerto Nuova, Turin, Italy.

 Police on anti-terrorism patrol spotted the object, which also appeared to have a metallic cylinder suspended below it, several hundred meters above them in the clear sky just before noon.

 They immediately informed headquarters, which in turn decided to contact the control tower of a local airport and were told that nothing appeared on radar screens.

 A member of the airport staff suggested that in all probibility what they were seeing was a sounding balloon - a small aerostat [radiosond] used for meteorological measuring purposes. Although these devices generally rise to a great height, this one could have been pushed towards earth as a result of air currents, or pressure.

 The truth, however, no one will know with absolute certainty. The policemen continued to observe while the enigmatic flying object moved imperceptibly slowly away, becoming smaller and smaller, before it was eventually lost to sight.
